How to do it

  1. 1TEST YOUR LETTERS FIRST. Trace and cut out B–S–B with regular paper to test the size, shape and placement. Then trace the final shapes onto the sparkle paper and carefully cut them out.
  2. 2IRON ON THE LETTERS. Attach each letter securely to its shirt following the letter product’s directions. This is iron-on and requires a hot iron.
  3. 3ADD THE LIGHTS. Use clear fishing line to sew the LED/EL wire in an outline around the letters. This takes a long time, but it’s worth it!
  4. 4SECURE THE WIRE. Make small, loose stitches over the wire and through the fabric every 1–2 inches, placing them closer around corners and curves. Never pierce, kink or sew through the light-up wire itself.
  5. 5TIE IT OFF. Keep stitches snug enough to hold the lighting without crushing it, then tie off the fishing line inside the shirt.
  6. 6PLACE THE BATTERY PACK. Route the remaining cord toward a side seam or hem. Secure the battery pack in a small interior pocket or pouch, or place it in your pants pocket.
  7. 7TEST EVERYTHING. Test the lights and your full range of movement before wearing. Keep the battery pack dry and disconnect the lighting before washing.
